Sidewinder's Journal April 3 This trip has flown by. Sunday through Tuesday were spent driving to Wellsville. Along the way I stopped and saw friends. I was able to update everyone as to where we were with the planning for the hike. Fortunately for them I spared the details of exactly how much there was left to do. I wish I could have spent more time with them and did not have to breeze through like I am. They are all good people and understand how things go. Just roll with the punches as take things as they come.I actually have underestimated all the work there still needs to be done myself. I am sure the next two weeks will be pretty busy. During the course of making the trail mix, I have discovered something. Fifty pounds of rolled oats is an huge amount of rolled oats. These oats are the basic ingredient in the trail mix I will be eating for the next six months as lunch and snacks. During my AT hike, I got what I thought was enough for the whole hike. Unfortunately it wasn't and Mom & Dad had to get more. I wasn't about to make the same mistake twice. From the looks of it, there are enough oats to make gorp for two or three. Seeing that many oats and how much we actually use makes we wonder about the other stuff I bought in quantity. Maybe getting 30 pounds of cous cous was a bad idea. I wonder how many servings that is? Trying to get everything done here that I need to do is like fighting a losing battle. I get one big task done and move it off the pile of things to do only to see more things that need to get done but that aren't quite so important. I hope that I have time to get everything done and not leave that one item that falls into the I-will-do-that-later-since-it-is-pretty-simple category. This trip has already seen "Get toothbrush before leaving" missed while staying with my sister Pittsburgh.
